Yay for 37Signals!

Here at ProofHQ we love to make our users happy… for the most part, that involves us keeping our heads down, focussing on regular revisions of the product to make it the very best that you can be.

Up until now, we’ve pretty much flown under the radar, doing what we do rather than shouting about it.We’re all human though and when someone shows us a little love, we can’t help but get a little fuzzy feeling of satisfaction! You can then only imagine our delight when today, we were featured by 37signals as one of their highlighted partners - alongside other great services such as Freshbooks and Beacon.

It gives us great satisfaction that we’re able to offer our users integration with services such as Basecamp but that they recognise what value we can offer their users too.  We’re signing off now to go and puff out our chests in pride, but if you’re interested in finding out how you can integrate 3rd party applications with your ProofHQ account, don’t hesitate to drop us a note.

ProofHQ Meetup, Zakopane, Poland

We had one of our quarterly team gatherings, this time at Hotel Marilor in Zakopane in the south of Poland.

Zakopane is a pretty town in the Tatra mountains in the south of Poland.  At least we think it was pretty, because we had fog and rain the whole time and quite honestly couldn’t see much of anything at all.

As usual, the team gathered from all points of the compass; the UK, Poland and Qatar.

Despite the weather we had a great time, meeting some team members in person for the first time, having a series of important strategy discussions and enjoying “face time”.  The hotel put on an impressive BBQ for us on the final evening…

…and we did some serious damage to the hotel’s humidor.

ProofHQ is hiring: Marketing Manager

We are hiring a marketing manager to join our team.

We are looking for a smart, social-media savvy marketing manager who can help us with a wide range of marketing activity.  They will:

  • Manage our demand generation, website and online presence (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc)
  • Develop and execute demand generation plan
  • Create and execute a website development plan
  • Execute product launches and releases
  • Develop marketing automation
  • Manage SEO, PPC and online ads
  • Create webcasts
  • Create white papers, case studies and sales collateral.

Yes, yes, we know that this is a very long list of To Do’s, but ProofHQ is growing so fast that we need to start covering these bases quickly and efficiently.

We are looking for someone with start-up/early stage marketing experience, ideally in B2B and ideally SaaS.  We need someone who is scrappy and understands what it takes to work in an early stage company with all of the pivots and changes of direction that involves.

The person will work from home, so location is really not important.  They can be in North America, the UK, Europe - in fact anywhere.  The important thing is that they are self-motivated enough to get on with the job by Skype, email, GoToMeeting and, of course, ProofHQ!

If you know anyone who is interested, they can contact mat [at] proofhq.com.

New AIR Uploader

We are very pleased to have just released a new version of our ProofHQ Uploader. We decided to move from Java to Adobe AIR which solves problems that a lot of our clients using Macs were experiencing.  This initial version has basic upload and proof settings tools, but we will be adding more proof settings over the next few weeks.  We will also be adding an alert function so that the Uploader will act as a notification tool whenever your proofs are updated. Updates to ProofHQ and Basecamp integration

I wanted to let you know about some big changes that we have made to the ProofHQ integration with Basecamp.Designers and clients can now use ProofHQ’s feedback and approval tools from right inside Basecamp. This means that they don’t need to leave Basecamp to use ProofHQ. This keeps workflow simple and saves even more time getting feedback on design work. We have enabled this by improving the miniproof that embeds ProofHQ inside Basecamp projects. The new miniproof lets users interact fully with ProofHQ from right inside Basecamp. This means that they can add comments, reply to existing comments and make decisions without having to leave Basecamp. We have also improved single sign on, so after a Basecamp user has signed in to a miniproof for the first time, they will be automatically signed in to miniproofs in the future. Welcome to Marcin Pomorski

Marcin has just joined our test team.  In his spare time he is part of a rap crew called ZWT616.  Here’s a recent video - he is the guy at 2:38 with the hat.

Needles to say, the dev team are now scared “witless”!

(apologies to any Polish speakers for the lyrics)

Team Meetup in Wroclaw, Poland

We had one of our regular team meetups last week.

The ProofHQ team is split between the UK, Poland, Qatar, Ireland and (shortly) the US.  In fact, the team in Poland are split between five cities, so they see each other as little as they do the rest of us.  We all work remotely and connect every day by Skype, GoToMeeting and email.

Remote working has huge advantages, but also some disadvantages.  We all miss those quick end-of-day beers and the opportunity to chill out together face-to-face .  To compensate we try and get together regularly in one place.  The folks from Poland have been to London a few times and we have travelled to Poland, including for social events such as weddings.  We are now trying to make these meetups a quarterly event and make them part of the ProofHQ “rythm” (daily scrums, fortnighly sprints, monthly releases, quarterly meetups, etc).

Last week we returned to Wroclaw, which is a historical city in south west Poland.  Wroclaw was where we hired our first team member in Poland (Irek) and is one of the top technology hubs in the country.  The rest of the team travelled in from Gdansk, Lodz, Lublin, the UK and Quatar.

Changes to Basecamp affecting ProofHQ users

We wanted to give you a heads up about a change made to the ProofHQ and Basecamp integration.

Last month, 37signals (the team behind Basecamp) made the switch to a new login system called 37signals ID. Visit the 37signals website to learn more about 37signals ID. What this means for ProofHQ users is that if you use the Basecamp integration, you may need to update your info within ProofHQ. Here’s how you can ensure your account is updated.

  • Go to your Basecamp account and log in.If you haven’t done so, you will be prompted to create a new 37signals ID.
  • If your new 37signals ID and password differ from your original Basecamp ID and password, you will need to change your settings within ProofHQ.
  • To do this, log in to your ProofHQ account.
  • Click on ‘Account Settings’ in the left pane.
  • Go down the page to the Basecamp section.
  • Under Username and Password, enter your new 37signals ID information and click the ‘Save’ button.
  • Logout of ProofHQ and login again for the change to take effect.
  • If you have several users in your ProofHQ account using Basecamp, then each user will have to do this as well.

This should get you back up and running with the ProofHQ and Basecamp integration.

UPDATE:  If this doesn’t work initially, you may need to add your new Basecamp details in your personal settings as well as your account settings.

ProofHQ has a bestselling author

Tom Skaraczyński is one of the big brains in the ProofHQ development team.  He just released a book, which has shot to number one in the bestseller lists.  Ok, so it’s in Polish and about Symfony and PHP, but it’s a great result - well done Tom.

His publisher is already talking about a sequel and has been fielding calls from a couple of Hollywood movie studios. We can see Brad Pitt playing Tom in the lead role.  Still no word on the leading lady, but we hear Penelope Cruz is interested.
