Yay for 37Signals!

Here at ProofHQ we love to make our users happy… for the most part, that involves us keeping our heads down, focussing on regular revisions of the product to make it the very best that you can be.

Up until now, we’ve pretty much flown under the radar, doing what we do rather than shouting about it.We’re all human though and when someone shows us a little love, we can’t help but get a little fuzzy feeling of satisfaction! You can then only imagine our delight when today, we were featured by 37signals as one of their highlighted partners - alongside other great services such as Freshbooks and Beacon.

It gives us great satisfaction that we’re able to offer our users integration with services such as Basecamp but that they recognise what value we can offer their users too. We’re signing off now to go and puff out our chests in pride, but if you’re interested in finding out how you can integrate 3rd party applications with your ProofHQ account, don’t hesitate to drop us a note.

Why collaboration is hot! Or not….

ReadWriteEnterprise ran a piece on why collaboration technology is the hot new thing.

Quoting a report from Forrester called “Benchmarking Your Collaboration Strategy“, they cite two key drivers:

First, knowledge workers are swamped with information overload. It’s harder and harder to stay on top of the data hitting us each day. This is increasing as more of us turn on the social media firehose.

Second, enterprises have become efficient at making widgets, but are still very inefficient at managing information. This is driving the need to create a more structured approach to how information is managed.

Now I love sitting down with a chilled Chardonnay on a warm summer evening reading an analyst report as much as any of you, but this seems to be repeating what we have heard about collaboration in the enterprise once a year, every year for the last twenty years.

Introducing “Custom Views”

We are doing a lot of work to improve the management capabilities of ProofHQ. These are the functions that help you manage the workflow around your online proofing. We are pleased to announce the release of “Custom Views”.

What are Custom Views?

Custom Views let you create your own views so you can manage proofs in a way that suits you and your workflow.

You can save and re-use custom views.
You can share your custom views with your team.
You can even export yor custom views as reports to CSV or Excel.

Custom views are available on the All Items and other list pages in ProofHQ.

Introducing the “Progress Bar” in Beta

One of the most important aspects of managing design review is tracking where every person has got to with their review. Trying to do this by email and attachments is a complete pain.

ProofHQ already provided some tools to help keep track of progress. Today we have launched a new feature in beta that we think will save you a massive amount of time keeping track of progress.

The “Progress Bar” shows you at-a-glance the progress that has been made on a proof. You can quickly scan down the proof list to see where reviewers have got to with each proof.

“Set actions on comments” has been redesigned

The “set actions on comments” feature lets you set a specific action for a comment thread. For example, “Make change” might tell the designer to go ahead and make the change described, “Stet” might tell the designer to ignore the comment and “Done” might be a way for the designer to let you know that the change has been made. These options can be completely customised by you in Account Settings.

We have just redesigned the actions feature so that is now appears when you click the right hand side of the Save button in the comment thread. This means that you can add a comment or a reply and set an action at the same time.

When an action is set you will see a note in the comment thread. You can set actions as many times as you want.

If you are using actions, you can filter comments by actions in the sidebar. This means that you can see which comments have which action set, including “unactioned”.

Locking and unlocking individual comment threads

Today we launched a new feature that can help you fine tune your workflow on proofs.

You already have the ability to lock and activate proofs and all the comments on them. Today we introduced the ability to lock and unlock individual comment threads. The feature is available for proof owners and anyone else with edit rights on the proof.

You can find the lock/unlock option by clicking the right side of the Save button in the comment window. Click “Save and lock comment” to lock the comment thread. You can lock at any time, from making the initial comment to any point in the threaded discussion.

Once the comment thread is locked, you will see a closed padlock icon in the bottom left corner.

To unlock the comment thread, hover over the locked icon. An “Unlock comment” button will appear. Click the button and the comment thread will be unlocked.

Measuring in pixels, inches and millimeters

The measure tool on the proof page now includes the ability to measure in inches and millimeters.

These additional options are available for files where the file dimensions are known e.g. PDF and Microsoft Office documents. For other files types where the file doues not have a physical dimension the measurement is in pixels only.

Attachments on Comments

We have just added a new feature that allows you to add attachments to comments. This has been requested by many clients and has a huge range of uses. For example, reviewers can upload alternative text as a Word doc, or alternative images. Proof owners can upload reference documents or brand guidelines.
